Antipasti means before the meal, usually consists of small bites, cured meats, cheeses, spreads, olives, anchovies, crackers and bread. Keep a few basic antipasti in your pantry that only need a few fresh staples to commence a great meal.  

Table olives in the Italian diet are very common, marinated as an appetizer, and used in the preparation of many recipes. Olives are the small fruits of a remarkably hard, drought-tolerant tree that's native to the eastern Mediterranean region, and that can live and bear fruit for a thousand years. There are hundreds of varieties, of different shapes and flavors.
